Coll The Coll Magazine

Editor's COLL-umn

When I first suggested starting this magazine two years ago a few pessimists said there was nothing worth writing about Coll and no-one to write it anyway. How wonderfully wrong they were! This second issue is so packed with fascinating material that there's little room left for me to pontificate - which is just as it should be. Briefly then, I simply want to thank most warmly all who have offered support and help of various kinds to make this venture a success.

The first issue sold very well (but there are copies left at reduced prices; ask at Coll shops) through outlets in Mull. Tiree, Oban, Ardnamurchan, Dunoon and the Macbrayne boats as well as Coll itself. and it received favourable publicity on Radio Highland, in 'The Oban Times' and the 'Scots Magazine'. Requests for copies came from Canada, Germany, Australia and the U.S.A. and several individual libraries. I've also received interesting letters from former Collachs and visitors with fond memories of the island in 'the good old days' from which I hope to build on our good start. We shall continue to need people willing to put pen to paper (or talk on to a tape) and to come up with fresh ideas and information, letters, illustrations and practical assistance for future issues. The main theme of this issue is land use on Coll; next year it will be the sea - from wreck to wrack. Please help by buying your very own copy of this current issue and subscribing now to the next one -subscription slip inside.
