Coll-ections. News about gatherings and happenings. The Coll Show

The Coll Agricultural & Horticultural Society held its 61st Annual Meeting on 6th August 1982. Although the weather was mostly overcast, the Show enjoyed a large turn-out, both of locals and holidaymakers.

Cattle and Sheep Judging was performed by Mr H. MacPhail and winners were:

1. C. K. M. Stewart - Kenneth Cup and Carsons Prize.

2. T. D. Waugh - Fiona Cup and Carsons Prize.

3. C. N. Kennedy - Sinclair Magill Prize.

The Horticultural Section was judged by Mr D. Harrison and the Cup was won again by Mrs C. Brodie of Ballard. The Cup for Flowers and Floral Arrangement was won by Mrs P. K. Hinkson.

In the Cooking Line, the main section of the baking classes was won by Mrs Flora Maclennan, Arileod. Scones and Pancakes section was won by Mrs Chrissie MacKinnon.

Mrs MacKinnon's dancers held their annual Dancing Display ably piped by Sandy MacKinnon. Mrs A. Perrie of Arinagour School arranged a dancing display by her relatives, Laura and Fiona. The main dance prize winners were (under 10 years) Marion Galbraith; (over 10 years) Mrs F. Anderson and Miss P. McKechnie.

The Children's Art section aroused much interest as usual. It was judged by Mrs M. Hedderwick who also suggested that next year we might include a section for Adults and a class for a sketch of Coll.

This Coll Magazine was also launched at the Show and received much warm support from subscribers.

This year's show will, it is hoped, be on August 5th and we always welcome volunteers with new ideas for side-shows etc. We hope that the visitors will participate as much this coming Show as they have in the past.
