Show Day

Well, what can one say!? The day could not have been less inspiring. We awoke to the familiar sounds of incessant rain and spirits were low as everyone trudged through the puddles to the hall with their entries. Any optimistic hopes that the weather might marginally improve as the day progressed were washed away in the worsening deluge. Those who braved the sheep judging should be specially commended, particularly Mr.Cocker, the judge. Those people who endured the elements from this point on deserve mention, especially the road race competitors and organisers and those involved in the dog handling and pet judging. The enthusiasm and undiminished humour of Len Church, soaked to the skin putting reluctant dogs and owners through their paces, will be an abiding memory.
Covered space in the afternoon was at a premium, as despite the appalling weather, there was a remarkably good turn out. The conditions seemed to bring out the best in everyone, spirits were high and there was an atmosphere of general enthusiasm and good humour throughout the day. The hall was opened earlier than usual for the viewing of the entries, providing a welcome respite from the rain. Mr. Angus Kennedy (Show Convenor) called upon the judges to comment on the entries and the cups were presented, after which everyone headed for their welcome firesides.
The same evening saw a good turn out for an excellent dance, with a packed hall and music by Campbell Brown and Martin Pottinger.
On a day when even cancellation had to be considered even the most optimistic of us could not have anticipated such an enjoyable day.
