And a Hundred Years Ago ...
 
Coll Agricultural Society's Seventh Annual Show was held in Arinagour on the 5th September, 1885. Here are some extracts from the Prize List:

Horses for Agricultural Purposes
Class 1. For the best Mare with Foal at foot:- i. J.L. Stewart; Class 8. For best Horse or Mare, any age, belonging to Tenants paying £80 and under:i. Roderick Mackinnon.

Ayrshire Stock
Class 1. For best bull, any age:- i. John Patterson; ii. Don Maclean. Class 7. For best pair Two-year-old Queys:- i. John Galbraith;

Sheep (bred by Exhibitor)
Class 4. For best Shearling Blackface Ram:- i. J.L. Stewart; ii. H.A. Campbell's representatives.

Dairy Produce
Class 1. For best cheddar cheese, not less than 251bs. i. Mrs Kirkland, Gallanach Dairy; ii. Mrs Irvine, Breacacha Dairy.

Farm Produce
Class 4. For best Six Yellow Turnips:- i. J.L. Stewart ii. J. Patterson.

Garden Produce
Class 1. For best Three Cabbages, not Drumhead:i. Chas Macfadyen. Class 4. For best Six Carrots:i. Rev N. Macdougall.

Flowers
Class 1. For best varieties Asters:- i. Mrs Hain. Class 3. Best Table Bouquet:- i. Miss Lizzie Macorkindale. William Gilchrist won a prize for the Best Collie Dog: Charles Macfadyen for the Best Kept Cottage; Donald Mackinnon for the Best Kept Garden.
