A Schoolboy's View

On Coll at the primary school there was one teacher when I was there. I could go home to my parents every night. At the primary school you knew everyone well unless they had recently moved to Coll. But at the age of eleven or twelve you have to go to Oban or Tiree High School (most Coll pupils go to Oban).

I chose to go to Oban High School which was over 50 miles away, I had to stay in a placed called Killbowie Hostel. The hostel was generally very good. People came from Mull, lona, Lismore, Loch Awe as well as Coll pupils. People from Coll, Colonsay, Jura and Gigha stayed weekends, usually about four before going home. The school has lots of teachers, a few for every subject, there are hundreds of pupils in the school. (There are 50 to 60 people staying in the hostel). It is a lot better if you go to Oban High because you get taught a lot of subjects but you don't get home often.
