Coll Agricultural and Horticultural Show

Friday 2nd August brought the entire population of Coll and assorted visitors together for the 75th Annual Agricultural and Horticultural Show. The excellent weather of the previous day eluded us but the Show remained relatively dry for most of the event.

There was an excellent turnout for all the classes including the sheep judging. Other highlights included the Highland Dancing display organised by Mrs Chrissie MacKinnon and the presentation of a Horticulture Cup to Mrs Catriona Brodie for her winning streak of 20 years.

The afternoon continued in various forms of physical exertion during the slow cycle race, the men's cross country race and the children's road race. For those resting between events there were various sideshows and a seemingly eternal barbecue.

The Chairman, Mr Peter Smalley, called on Mr Robert Sturgeon to present the cups at 5.00pm before the evening celebrations began. The Coll Show Dance had the Village Hall packed to capacity and the local band were excellent. The band played until two in the morning and the dancing stopped shortly afterwards.
