THE SORASDAL TREE.

THE SORASDAL TREE.

Have you seen it ? Do you know it's story ?

Years ago, Hector MacKinnon found a strange bundle of roots washed up on the Sorasdal strand. He rescued it, and decided to plant it.

He chose a sheltered spot against the hillside behind the cottage. Doubtless , his careful planting and later tending were good, for his faith was rewarded. Gradually the root sprouted, and became a small conifer - a Sitka Spruce.*

Well established, protected from the storms, and surviving the predatory hazards of all plant life on Coll, the little tree thrived and grew.

Now it's height and girth should ensure it's continuance as a memorial to the optimistic vision of Hector MacKinnon.

Of all the increasing number of trees on Coll , surely this is the one most deserving of a commemorative plaque. How about it , Coll Community Council !

*Please note, one Sitka Spruce (So dreaded by Conservationists) does not make a blanket forest……
