RECOLLECTIONS

When I recall....
Oe'r sunlit seas the lazy winds are herding,
Through azure skies, the small, stray, shining clouds
To Coll.
The happy days are long, and know no ending,
But merge with starlit nights and ceilidhed song....
When I recall.
And always
It's bog scent on the West-Road, and the pees-weep calling.
The hay is sweet for cutting in the work-live fields of Coll.
The cows come home to Gallanach, where there's
Yellow iris growing,
And breezes play o'er Breachacha the summer
Evening long.
When I recall!
Ah! Isle of Days Gone By, past all recalling,
Sturdy thy sons, and many then, and life
Flowed strong
In Coll.
But now, fast fade thy sons and daughters
Into the great sleeping.
Thy grandsons seek the further ways.
Shall strangers right thy wrong?

Agnes McKenzie Agnes McKenzie came to Coll in 1944 as District Nurse when the MacLean family were farming Totronald. Donald courted and won the bonny nurse with the wee black bag and a way with words. The couple now live in Shoes near Glasgow.
