AN COMUNN COLLACH

THE COll ASSOCIATION
Founded 1931

The Coll Association Committee Session 1984/85

Continuing to provide a social scene in Glasgow enabling ‘Collachs’ to gather together on a regular basis, the ‘Coll Association’ has once again strengthened over the last year. From the formality of our Annual dinner to a Tatties and Herring Supper as well as several ceilidhs, the Coll folk in Glasgow sustain friendships old and new – and not in any introverted way!

Members of kindred territorial associations such as Sky – Tiree – Islay are regular visitors to Coll functions, as are our people at their events. Much can be achieved when Gaels and their friends act in concert!

On the financial side of our activities all of the associations proceeds continue to be put towards our Benevolent fund and used to the benefit of deservous needs akin to coll. Over the last year grants have been made to both Coll Churches to help with fabric maintenance. Coll schoolchildren were also given a financial boost to enable them to visit Edinburgh.

On the international scene as the magazine goes to press, the association is taking an active part in the International Gathering Year in Glasgow, when exiled Scots and clan descendants from all over the world are able to meet relatives, trace roots and generally see their country of origin. Our Coll Association will have a booth at the main exhibition where genelogical and general information can be provided on Coll. This exhibition was held at the McLennan Galleries, Sauchihall Street, Glasgow.

On the sporting scene the annual golf Competition between 'old rivals' Coll and Tiree was once again won by the coll Association.

On the cultural scene the Coll has been closely identified with and continues to support the campaign to have gaelic taught in bilingual schools in and around Glasgow. Everything the association engages in has but one aim – the furtherance of anything that is good for Coll and the ‘Collachs’, and if you share this precept you should come along to at least one of the events on the association’s calendar – you’ll find yourself at home!
