The Coll Show
The Coll Agricultural and Horticultural Society held its 63rd Annual Meeting in Arinagour Village Hall on Friday 3rd August, 1984, and as usual enjoyed a good attendance and lovely weather.
Judges for the day were Mr Hodge, Oban, (Horticulture), Mrs Gunn, Oban (Industrial), Mrs MacDonald, Oban, (Handcrafts), Mr Douglas, Oban, (pets) and Mr Willison, Killin, (Sheep). The success of the Sheep Class continued, but the Cattle Section was withdrawn due to lack of interest. We hope that an effort will be made on all parts to re-introduce this competition next year.
This year saw the return of the Cross Country Race, won by F. Anderson and J. Galbraith, with Bill Johnson coming third. A display was given by Mrs C. MacKinnon's Dancing Class, with piping supplied by Sandy MacKinnon. Assorted side-shows were provided, the most unusual being a Canadian Quoits Competition organised by Stewart and Collin MacKinnon.
Children's Sports Competitions were arranged by Dave Allen and Davie Moore. Climax of the day's sporting events was a tug-of-war competition between the local Collachs and a visitors' team, with the Collachs winning 3-0. The Locals were then challenged by the 'Young and Handsome Coll Team', under the leadership of Steve Reid, who beat the older gentlemen 2-1.
At the end of the day prizes were presented by Mrs C. Brodie and the Convenor, Mr A. Brodie thanked everyone who had contributed to the success of the event. A well-attended dance was held in the evening with music supplied by the Willie Cameron Band to end the show in high spirits!
