Forty-Two Years On. . .
Possibly the longest-serving school bus driver in the country retired last October when Hugh MacKinnon ('Hughie Broadhlll' as he is affectionately known) gave up transporting the Coll 'west end' children to and from school - a job he started in 1942. He began it when the four schools were amalgamated during the war, and Arinagour became the only school on Coll. As Hugh had been in hospital, the teacher, Louise Collier, presented him with a crystal rose bowl at his house just before Christmas, to which present and past parents and children had contributed, as a token of appreciation.
