Editorial
When I first wrote this editorial - which was, I think, five years ago - I took a very long time to do it, carefully measuring every word. I am ashamed to say that this particular editorial is b eing penned the day before I intend to send all the edited material to the printers in Oban.
This is not so much slapdash carelessness as a reflection of the amount of time it really can take to collate and edit the magazine. It is early May and the Coll Magazine has been in and around my mind since January. It seems to have been a really long haul this year.
We are all certainly missing Mairi Hedderwick and the enthusiasm and commitment that she always directed to this particular project. Mairi's life has taken a new direction, she flitted from Crossapol last June and is now living in the Borders. As someone who could persuade a contribution out of almost anyone, she is sorely missed.
But we soldier on, a committee dedicated to the annual production of th e Coll Magazine. There is also another role to play now: the success of this publication has meant that over the years a surplus of funds has accumulated and the intention is that some of this money can be donated to local projects and voluntary groups. Over the past year this money has helped to pay for a number of electronic chess sets for the School Chess Club and also the the Christmas Dinner that the Senior Citizens enjoy. We would like to encourage islanders running voluntary groups to apply for don ations to their funds.
In conclusion I would like to thank all the contributors, both on and off the island; John and Alison Fraser for their last minute proof reading and the remaining members of the Editorial Committee: Kip Poulson, Neil Morrison, Charlie Self, Val Smith and Beth Hazell.
I hope that you enjoy this, the 16th edition - Alison McVey
