Beached Whale

BEACHED WHALE

In June a 10 foot long Lesser Rdrqual or Pike Whale was beached on Caolas an Eilean near the pier on ColI. Thought to be suffering from sunburn, local man Donald MacLennan, covered it with wet sheets and seaweed to prevent further damage. However, it was in vain because shortly after beaching the mammal was seen to thrash violently before dying. The Sea Life Centre at Barcaldine reported the finding to the British Natural History Museum in London whose first ever record was made of the incident.
