Coll Cricket Club v. The Rest of the World

CRICKET CLUB v. THE REST OF THE WORLD

Robert Bogdan returned with his touring side, to the island to play the second official cricket match on Coll. However, due to Caledonian MacBrayne's unfortunate scheduling, they arrived on the island some ten hours late.

In true tradition, the day of the match dawned foul and wet. The Rest of the World side opened play and Simon Wilson, Keith Ritchie, John Mackay and Robert Bogdan were the main contributors to the total of 120. Wickets were shared by the Coll bowlers with Mike Taylor's figures 2 for 21 being the pick of the attack. John Fraser's pace was too sharp for Lauchie Neil, as was the weather for most of us.

As the Coll innings opened, the sun made its first appearance of the day. This left the Coll side having to cope with a turning and drying wicket which, combined with tight bowling from Tom Rennie and the skipper, may explain the home side's defeat by 3 runs! The innings was opened by Penny Price and John English, and the other batsmen all played their part. However, quick runs were needed and Andrew Greaves, with 34, nearly got the side home.

Thanks to the Umpires, Pete Smalley and Alan Underwood. Tea was appreciated too. Players may be interested to know that The Rest of the World side have had a 'T' shirt printed which declares, "I've Played Cricket on Coll". A claim to be proud of under the circumstances.
