NEW PIER STORE ARTS REVIEW
Throughout the summer we hosted a varied selection of exhibitions in The Old Waiting Room. Kicking off with the Ceramic Evening Class Retrospective '93 - '98. I was very pleased and inspired to see the extent of pieces and they sparked off many happy memories of dark and windy winter classes held in various damp and draughty venues. Roll on next winter in the new, improved light and cosy studio.
The Business centre provided the next and most popular exhibition: 'Impressions of Coll'. A fantastic record of the Coll that was for the Collachs and loves of the Coll that is. The computersied scans of turn of the century light plates are now on show in the Business Centre, neatly completing the information technology revolution of the twentieth century. (More about this further on.)
Changing shows again for the contemporary arts, we provided a venue for the Tiree Art Enterprises Summer Show to travel to Coll. I found this very valuable as it is difficult to organise a trip to Tiree during the summer season. Hopefully this will be an annual event to look forward to.
We topped the season with a show from the-young and talented Daniel Taylor. This was a very popular exhibition, the highlights of which were the forty studies of a lightbulb and the cartoon personalities inspired by our favourite wee dram. Not only were the colours and models wonderful - the insight into the first year art student curriculum was very interesting. Here's to a snippet of his degree show in a couple of years.
Thank you everyone who participated and enjoyed the summers entertainment.
