...AND AT CORNAIG - BIG FISHING CATCHES!

"Mackerel thrive on wind and rain" could have been the adage for Coll's annual east end fishing competition held during last summer season. Fishing the traditional line and feathers nine boats braved inclement weather off Cornaig harbour on the islands north east coast and were rewarded with individual catches mainly of mackerel well in excess of previous years.

The Johnnie Maclnnes Tankard was won by Stormbringer with John Fraser, Charlie Self, George Barrie and lain Fraser. Storm Petrel with Fiona Kennedy, lain MacQuarrie and Angus Kennedy was in second place beating off the strong challenge of Muc Gorm in third place, crewed by Jonathon Tunnell, Stef Biel and Wil Tunnell.

In total the nine boats landed almost 11 cwts of fish. Heavy wind and rain put an effective clamp on the now traditional evening shore barbecue and ceilidh but as ever in the east end of Coll - there's always next year!!
