COLLACHS: Morag Kennedy

Morag Kennedy

Morag Kennedy, Greenbank, died on November 26th 1998, just before her, 82nd birthday.

Wife of the late Angus Kennedy, Morag was born and bred in Oban, although her MacKenzie roots were in Onich, her father being, of all things, the stagecoach driver in Glencoe! She served as a W.R.N.S. In Oban during the war and for many years was a nursing auxiliary in the old Oban Hospitals.

It was when she met and married Angus that her love of Coll and the Collachs began. Although they had no children of their own, Morag became "Auntie Morag" to two wide generations of Collachs. Her mainland home in Glencruitten Drive in Oban was an open door, everyone welcome, staging post for the Coll traveller, no matter the day or night. A bed and a meal was there and herself up, to make sure you didn't miss the boat! She was kindness and generosity, she was loving and full of fun and she cared.

The esteem in which she was held was reflected in the many mourners who attended the funeral services in Oban and Coll. The East End and Cornaig won't be the same without her. Her interest and love for Coll and the Coll folk stayed with her through the frailty of age and remained there until the end. The first question was always with a twinkle in the eye: '... and what's scandal in Coll?'
