From the Clyde Cruising Club Journal of 1913. Islands of Coll and Tiree Chart, 3674

These islands lie to the west of the Island of Mull, and are separated from it by the Passage of Tiree, which is about 5 miles wide at its narrowest part. The two islands are separated by Gunna Sound (see page 115). The Cairns of Coll lie I mile off the north end of that island, and dry 11ft. Suit Ghorm, one of these rocks, is marked by a white beacon, showing a white flash light every 12 sets. The S.E. coast of Coll is clear from here for 5 miles, to Loch nan Eathar, but westward of this the shores must be given a good offing, as there are a large number of outlying dangers. 9 miles S.W. of Tiree lies Skerryvore, a cluster of rocks, on one of which stands a stone lighthouse, showing a white flash light every 20 sets. There is no shelter to be had on the western sides of Coll or Tiree, and the whole of this coast is entirely exposed to the north and west. It is also much broken up and studded with dangers, both rocks and overfalls, and should be avoided. There are one or two fairly good anchorages on the inner sides of the islands, but all must be cautiously approached.

Arinagour. Chart, 3674 (see plan) - There is sheltered anchorage to be got in Loch nan Eat har, off the village of Arinagour. This loch lies 5 miles from the N.E. end of Coll, and the eastern shore is clean down to this point. The plan shows the entrance and dangers to be guarded against going into the north anchorage, where good shelter can be got from all winds in 1'/2 to 3 fathoms, with a warp to one of the rings on the islet if necessary. Off the south point of the loch lies Eil Ornsay, an island which is connected with the shore at L. W., and the entrance to the south anchorage is between this island and the red conical buoy which lies off it. The buoy shows a white flash light every 6 secs. The south anchorage, which is in 21h fathoms where shown on the plan, is much exposed to southerly winds, and a considerable swell sets in when the wind is in that quarter.
