Lost at Sea

It was a dull day, the sea was not very rough, the forecast was that it was to stay dull and there might be some rain so I decided to go to the creels.

I put the engine on to the boat and started it up. It wouldn't go at first but then it started to go.

At my last creel around Sorasdale I tried to pull it up and it came up with a jerk I nearly tipped the boat and the rope snapped. Going back round the engine stopped when I looked at it I found there was no fuel in it and I had left the rest in the shed, I was drifting out to sea on a strong current, I tried the oars but I lost them overboard.

I found the flares and sent one up, it banged and lit up the sky, there was no answer, then I remembered Dad's C.B. I got Hamish Macrae on it and I told him what happened, he said he would get the Coastguard out. I put the C.B. down.

By the time they came I was quite far away from the shore, it was J. W. James boat with five more men in it. They put me in the boat and towed my boat back, when I got back there was a crowd of people at the pier. I was taken to the big pier and a lifeboat took me to Oban where I was taken to hospital for a check up.

At the hospital they said there was nothing wrong with me. They gave me a sleeping pill and I went to sleep. When I woke up I was on the Columba heading for Coll and Mum by my side. Mum told me it wasn't so bad because I had eight lobsters. Dad was waiting with Neil and I was taken home.
