ISLAND NEWS
From Celtic Ceilidhs to Mull Theatre Madness...
What an entertaining year on Coll - here is a summary of public events, local and imported, which brought the community together with laughter, amazement and a fair dose of '...suspension of disbelief.'
Many thanks to all the Collachs involved in providing us with a high standard of local talent. A mention for members of Island Craft Enterprises to thank them also for the work involved behind the scenes bringing touring companies out here, admin, accommodation and food, 'get in' and' get out' assistance, visitors guided tours and general care for tired, travelling artists!
Although we have relied on goodwill and 'in kind' support, we still need hard cash to maintain and develop Coll as a touring destination. Financial support will be gratefully received especially as Cal Mac have foregone their 'Song of the Sea' (in partnership with H.L Arts) travel grant subsidy. The Scottish Arts Council have awarded I.C.E. £ 500 towards the 2001 programme of events (this only covers 15% of costs).
With the Tiree Village hall in development and the new theatre in the Corran Halls strengthening the circuit we should benefit from a wider choice of entertainment. The Promoters Arts Network publish 'up to date' performing arts contacts and reviews to help promoters co-ordinate dates and plan programmes. Details available in the pottery - get involved in choosing for the 2002 programme now!
