COLL AGRICULTURAL AND HORTICULTURAL SHOW

The 74th Annual Coll Show was held at Arinagour Village Hall on Friday 4th August 1995. As ever the major deciding factor on the success of the day was the weather. Waking to blazing sunshine we knew it was going to be an excellent day.

The Hall opened just before 9.00 am for the staging of exhibits. It was heartening to see laden tables in the hall and and the judges for the Home Produce, Horticulture, Flowers, Handcrafts and Children's sections all commented on the high standard of the entries. Deryck Stove was delighted with the success of his cabbage lettuce, which stole the show as the best vegetable entry. While the judges set to work in the hall, the competitors and spectators alike sweltered in the hot sun at the sheep judging.

The crowds turned out in the afternoon for the pet competitions, road race and children's sports. They were well served by both the bar and the tea tent, children of all ages had a go at the assault course and many people took part in the Guess who they are? photograph competition, which was accompanied by much cheating and shrieking. Music was supplied throughout the afternoon by both local musicians and Martin Pottinger and Campbell Brown, who also played at the dance in the evening.

At 5.00 pm everyone gathered in the hall for the presentation of the Cups. Mr Peter Smalley, Convenor, called upon Mr Johnnie MacInnes to present the Cups.
